Psychological examination

Psychological Examination
In the context of questions about the capacity to withstand work stress and the reintegration in the work situation

What is psychological examination?
When an employee is absent from work on account of psychological problems, or does not function optimally at work, questions often arise about his or her capacity to withstand work stress. Examples of these questions are:

1)    What are the cognitive potentials and limitations of the job?
2)    What are the personal potentials and limitations of the job?
3)    Which activities and context are best suited to his or her potential?
4)    What can the employer do to improve the employee’s performance?
5)    What can the employee do him/herself to improve his/her performance?
6)    What sort of treatment or help can be recommended to advance optimal performance?
7)    What is the prognosis for recovery and reintegration?

In general, the purpose of the psychological research is to chart the strong and the vulnerable sides of the person in question. The content of a psychological research is largely dependent on the information required. Requests for a research by Balance & Impulse often come from occupational physicians as well as health insurance experts.

By means of psychological research the following areas can be charted:
-    Intelligence
-    Psychological strain imposed by the job
-    Social skills
-    Personal skills
-    Psychopathology
-    Impact of shocking experiences
-    Developmental history of the person

The psychological research is carried out by a psychologist by means of a diagnostic interview, personality tests and intelligence/skill tests.

What is the result?

A written report of the psychological research gives answers to the questions posed above. On this basis concrete advice and recommendations are given about:

-    Employee’s psychological work capacity
-    Prognosis for recovery
-    Potential and limitations of the employee
-    Adjustments/improvements in the work situation
-    Personal training/coaching to increase/strengthen skills
-    Reintegration trajectory
-    Psychological support.

Cooperation with the client
The request for psychological research usually comes from an occupational physician or health insurance expert. However, an employer may also request a research.
In an advisory session, the results of the research are discussed with the client, who has the right to see and correct the report; he also has the right to prohibit it. With his consent, the report is sent to the occupational physician. The report can only be sent to medical specialists who operate under professional confidentiality. They are then responsible for the transfer of the conclusions and advice to the employer. If desired, the conclusions and advice can be discussed by the psychologist in a personal session with the client and the employer.

Costs and payment:
The psychological research entails
-    Diagnostic interview
-    Extensive personality and/or intelligence research
-    Advisory session with the examined person
-    Report to the client within 1.5 weeks.

On the basis of an introductory session with the employee, without obligation, and/or consultation with the client, Balance & Impulse prepare an offer in which the costs are specified. An indication of the costs can be found in the Summary of costs. After signing an agreement the psychological research begins. An invoice is sent for payment (tax-free) within 2 weeks.
